Types of bathroom lights

Bathrooms can utilise a wall or ceiling light that gives plenty of illumination for the whole room, and for secondary lighting, a mirror light. You can also use ceiling-integrated spotlights, or flexible LED strips. While dimmable indirect lighting is perfect for creating a cosy atmosphere.

Requirements for bathroom lights

The main regulatory criteria for bathroom lights is the resistance against water and humidity which is defined by the IP rating. IP stands for ingress protection, it is a mark that shows how resistant a product is against dust, humidity or direct water contact.

Bathroom lighting zones

Bathroom lighting has 3 key zones:

Zone 0 – Must be IP67 and are ideal for direct lighting inside showers or bath as they are immersion proof.

Zone 1 – Must be IP65 and can be used around showers.

Zone 2 – Minimum IP44 and suitable as mirror lights or general use in the bathroom.
